Otgon Tenger Mountain

Otgontenger, the 4021m high snow capped mountain, is the highest peak of the Khangai mountain range. The Khangai mountain range is believed to be formed over three billion years ago, and only Otgontenger peak has permanent glacier(above 3752m line) among the others.

Since the introduction of Buddhism, Mongolians believed that the religious deities inhabit in the mountains of Mongolia. For instance, Ochirvaani, the protective deity is considered the shrine of Otgentenger.

Moreover, It is one of the nine state sacred mountains, and thus state ceremonies are conducted once in every four year.

A beautiful lake called Badarkhundaga lies just below the snow cap of the mountain.
