Ulaantsutgalan & Orkhon waterfall

One of the most beautiful places in central Mongolia is the Ulaantsutgalan waterfall, located in Bat-Olzii, Uvurkhangai province.

Formed about 20,000 years ago out of volcanic eruption and earthquake, the waterfall is 24m high, 15m deep. The waterfall is part of the Ulaan river which takes its source from Khangai mountain ranges.

The Orkhon waterfall is much shorter about 2m high. Orkhon and Ulaan rivers merge few meters away from the Ulaantsutgalan waterfall.

The Ulaantsutgalan waterfall gets frozen in winter forming an ice wall. Mongolians organize ice climbing event at this  waterfall in late December.
